Turmeric gives curry its deep yellow color, and it has also been shown to protect brain cells. Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytochemical that studies have shown helps to prevent mental decline with aging. In one trial, occasional consumption of curry was associated with higher cognitive functioning scores.
